Foursquare redesigned version consists of new "Likes", better recommendations and visual simplification.
On Thursday evening (on the 7th of June) Foursquare is launching redesigned iPhone app version (appropriate for Android and Blackberry). In this app the company has joined extended functions range and usage simplification, based on its three year experience.
It is also worth mentioning that new version is functionally easier to understand and more convenient to use. On the bottom there are three “navigation” buttons: “Friends”, “Explore” and “You/Me”.
Detailed Friends Feed
This new app will show detailed friends activity feed but not only their “check in”.
“Likes” service addition (heart mark) provides now Foursquare network with new and more trustworthy social indicator that will allow the site / app to give improved recommendations. On the whole, “check in” indicates service usage frequency, but it does not mean its popularity at the same time. Though “Like” function means this.
The sense is to show and to generate bigger amount of social interactions that will increase users’ information amount for recommendations of better quality – and this is a certain virtuous cycle in a way. “Tips” tab is considered by the company as additional social marker.
More to “Explore”
Because of Foursquare audience increase the network has redesigned “Explore” tab. Now users will be able to see “top picks” in the immediate area. The social network has improved its algorithm in order to give its users better recommendations and venue options without additional search necessity. This is a certain persistent search service without additional queries and updating. User has not to decide what he / she exactly needs in advance.
Particularly these changes will help new users and users with low activity to master the service. So, all users will be provided with detailed recommendations of high quality regardless of their service experience.
At the same time redesigned Foursquare PC version will be launched this evening.
App Rolling Out Into New Users Work
Currently Foursquare social network possesses a huge amount of used information in order to be able to provide casual and new users with full service applying. The company takes an advantage of other users’ accumulated experience in order to make the service understandable even for the very user which has just joined the network.
Clearly, Foursquare tries its best to gain as much users as possible. Currently, it possesses more than 2 bln. “check in” marks and has more than 20 mln. users all over the world.
The redesigned app will be available on the 7th of June on the iTunes store site late tonight.
However, it is also interesting that Foursquare has abandoned Google Maps on the PC version but continues using it in mobile version.
