Wajam Integrates Its Revamped Social Search Experience On Bing And Yahoo
Wajam is going to integrate its new social search design on Bing and Yahoo’s search result pages. Referring to the company, its social search experience is more complete than the recently revamped Bing’s one.
The feature line-up of the all major search engines is constantly added with social search features. Sometimes due to such updates it may seem as if there is no space left for startups in this space. Wajam still sticks out on its otherness. Currently, Wajam, which was founded in Montreal by Marin-Luc Archambault in 2009, is considered to be one of the ‘tigers’ in the social search market. Several of the Wajam’s recent accomplishments were brought to Google last month and now the company claims it’s high time for Bing and Yahoo to update their social search results.
A plug-in, the company’s first major project, automatically embeds Wajam’s own social search results from its users’ network on Google, Bing and Yahoo’s search result pages. Apart from Google, Bing and Yahoo the company’s efforts are integrated on other well-known websites such as Yelp, YouTube, Amazon and TripAdvisor.
Wajam distinctive feature is its own index made-up of everything your friends share on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. It should be mentioned that while creating the index, Wajam takes into account your friends’ status updates, along with the sites they visit. Then using its PageRank-like algorithms Wajam ranks the collected information and depending on what you are looking for shows its own results together with your ordinary search results.
Martin-Luc Archambault, the company’s founder and CEO, says that now there are more than 2 billion pieces of content in Wajam’s index. Furthermore, referring to Archambault, due to the company’s algorithms the items in the index can be categorized (videos, restaurants, hotels, think pictures etc.). According to Wajam’s recent data it at present has the cap ability of displaying social search results for approximately 44 percent of all its users’ queries.
The most recent Wajam’s update is its revamped interface which the company is planning to integrate on Bing and Yahoo. Notwithstanding Bing unveiled its social search changes just a few days ago, Wajam squares its shoulders. The company asserts its social search experience is far more complete than Bing one as the results from updates your friend have shared with you are also included in standard search results (on condition you are opt-in to this feature). Moreover, it also outlines videos and photos, along with product recommendations.
Bing’s social search updates are said to let users to ask their friends questions right from search result pages. Meanwhile, Wajam notes that it shows users the results immediately, as well as it allows to sort the results by date, photos, videos, relevancy, links etc.
Wajam integrates users’ Facebook, Twitter and Google+ content wherever they search.
The company’s social search equation looks something like “Your search engine + Facebook + Twitter + Google+”.
