Microsoft Going to Pay App Makers to Create Windows Phone Versions
Microsoft’s goal is to make Window Phone a player in mobile. It has worked out a strategy with the help of which the platform can be easily ramped up among its consumers: reasonable price. Microsoft’s strategy is already in action. On Sunday Nokia announced about the release of its Nokia Lumia 900 with the price tag only at $100.
Apart from Nokia there are other companies that manufacture Windows Phones. Among the most well-known are Acer, Samsung, HTC, ZTE. Samsung, for example, was rumored to release this year three models. Moreover, it was said that two of them may be provided with Windows Phone 8 “Apollo”.
There is also little information about Microsoft relationship with the carriers. But, taking into account Microsoft previous experience with their last ‘parcel’ of phones, we can assume that an American multinational corporation will come down to the point with carriers very and very seriously.
The next step Microsoft is planning to make is to enlarge the range of popular applications that are functioning on the Windows Phone OS. In Microsoft’s point of view popular apps are some sort of pre-existing channels which consumers have shown their strong affection to.
In the New York Times report it is said that Microsoft is inducing the creators of popular applications to produce Window Phone versions. The corporation is even ready to make special outpayments to those who will these versions make. According to the Times, the creation cost of a n app, depending on its complexity, declared by makers themselves varies from $60,000 to $600,000. The authors of the article pointed also at the fact that Microsoft’s strategy one more time highlights Google’s and Apple’s strong position. Neither Apple nor Google pay app makers. But at the same time it is stressed that the translation to Windows Phone is much more difficult process than creation of an iPhone app from Android one or inversely. The translation complicacy is conditioned by Windows Phone apps’ participation in the OS horizontal scrolling metaphor. Besides the screen graphics are more ‘reserved’ as compared to the Metro standards.
To create the app that will go with the speed of such popular apps as Spotify, Foursquare, Facebook, Angry Birds one should make an extraordinary effort while to match each dominant platform there is a need in specially worked out code with its own syntax. All these are very time consuming and have to be paid for.
Microsoft is going to distribute Window Phone by opening multiple channels and decreasing the resistibility with each to increase the influx of new users.
