    Yandex Product Portfolio’s Replenishment: Yandex.Disk

    The IT company Yandex which operates the largest search engine in Russia is on the road to be the default search engine on Apple devices that are sold in the Russiann Federation. On Thursday its representatives announced about the startup of Yandex.Disc, a new free cloud storage service that lets Yandex users to hold their personal data online.

    The new Yandex service allows to store data of different formats. At users’ disposal is up to 10 gigabytes of spare space that can be filled with videos, music, photos, personal documents etc. As well as in other storage services Yandex.Disc users can access the stored data practically from everywhere where Internet access is.

    Apart from those files a user uploads on Yandex.Disc, the service stores attachments from user’s Yandex.Mail accounts. For email attachments a separate space is admeasured. As of today the service is operating in beta version and is only available for Yandex services’ users. Moreover, to become a Yandex.Disc user a person has to leave an application and receive an invitation.

    Along with Yandex.Mail the company provides a service called Yandex.Music. Although the service is available only in Russia and in the countries of the near abroad (Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan), its popularity impresses.

    It should be mentioned that Yandex.Disk was worked out with a Russian interface that’s why for now it is being expanded only in the Russian Federation and other Russian-speaking countries. According to the sources Yandex as yet is not planning to distribute its new product to other countries.

    Yandex.Disc data are synchronized for different devices. For example, a user can start to work with a file on a home PC and continue on a laptop at his working place. The Yandex.Disc cloud storage service can be used via a web interface as well as via Windows or MacOS GUI. The users of iPhone and Androis devices can access to Yandex.Disc via specially designed app – Yandex.Mail app.

    A whisper goes round that Yandex, in order to integrate its products into markets outside the U.S., is going to team up with Apple. But the company itself does not comment on this.
