Yandex Attempts to Consolidate Search Dominance, Pushing Google Back in Russia
Yandex is making efforts to consolidate its position in Russia, and managed to overcome its biggest rival, Google.
There is a fierce competition in the search industry worldwide for years and on various different levels. Recently, Yandex managed to dominate the Russian search market in the detriment of Google.
Although there has been a competition right from the beginning of the Russian Internet, in recent months, Yandex registered 59.4% of Russian Internet searches, while Google only had 25.6%.
One of its secrets is the fact that Yandex is familiar with specific local searches and the company constantly upgrades the quality of the offered products and services. Their technology is always up to date to make sure they maintain a significant share of the local Russian search market.
Yandex recently made changes in the enhancement to content in the search results, simplifying the search for the most recent information on SERPs. As a search is performed for the most recent events, the group of links is displayed to the user in historical relevance order with the help of their real-time robot (Orange) and an advanced ranking formula.
This year, Yandex’s major initiative is Social Networking Search. As the program wants to improve the quality of its search engine with content extracted from social networking sites. As a search is performed for a person, the search query will display the person’s profile accounts on all major social networking and blogging sites.
The Yandex search results also include the microblogging community. Yandex has also teamed up with Twitter, to display public tweets in search results, making extremely easy to find real-time content on the interests of a given user. Without any doubts, there are going to be new challenged on the horizon for Yandex, taking in consideration mobile operating systems, browser wars or even other competition than Google.
