  • New Pagination Tags from Google

Google has recently announced that they were going to show single-page variants in search results. So two modern link elements were introduced. To explain this we should apply the notion of pagination.

Pagination is dividing something whole into constituents. As far as web pages are concerned this is dividing a file or a document into small parts.

As you know a lot of forum platforms use it. Pagination can be realised right on your site and it's possible that you don't even know it. Gmail, publications and search engines employ it.

An article can be divided into 2, 3 or more pages with links to "next". Any blog can find older and newer posts for you if you want it. All these examples are regarded as cases of pagination.

Many web masters have already got the idea that the usage of pagination can be of great help for SEO.
Previously you could just use unique titles for a page for that. You should not necessarily do it now. Use rel="next" and rel="prev". It works.

If you want to know more, read this.

These tags are helpful for commemtaries or related news.

It's interesting that rel="cannonical" has dicovered some new purposes. Now it can be used to see the whole paginated system by means of a "view-all" page.

Google announced that they would rather use this option again instead of showing every page.

Mind that this option is highly recommended only if the traffic you have is good enough. If not, use above mentioned options.
