Is This a New Stage of the Rel="author" Tag Integration Into Organic SERPs?
Recently Technical Director at 3 Door Digital Alex Moss noticed changed SERPs - that was a rel="author" tag embedded within a local result. Of course such a tag that appears within SERPs of regular organic results has been the order of the day, but not within a local entry of a SERP specifically.
As Moss notes, he was surprised that rel="author" tag has been implemented correctly and as well as this a score rating, reviews, map pointer and place page images were shown. The full data was shown on Google Local page.
But this option seems to function within google.com at the moment. If you click on results
the related SERP with Knowledge Graph will be shown.
Also you can see a proposition «Learn more about how authors appear in search - Google Authorship» at the top of .com's SERP. This link shifts you to a dedicated Google Authorship Verification page within Google+.
When Moss tried the same query within google.co.uk, there was a message saying: «The search option you have selected is currently unavailable».
Google seems to continue author integration into local organic SERPs and to popularize social services, as independent experts suppose. And, whether we'll like it or not, one needs to be present within Google+ as it helps to expose organic exposure correctly. So, Google+ profiles turn to be more relevant for exposure.
