Google+ App on iPad Lays Emphasis on the Visual Appeal
Google+ app on iPad considers visual content of the posts as top priority, encouraging users to share images and content.
Google+ can lure the users of Facebook app on mobile devices away. Shortly after one-year anniversary of the product Google announced the release of the official Google+ app on iPad. The social network app for the Apple's tablet takes its cue from Google+ on iPhone, released this May. Its interface bears a striking difference from what the users of Google+ on the web are used to, as the emphasis is laid on the visual presentation of the user's post.
The Focus on Visibility
Larger images, varying sizes of the content blocks, action buttons above the graphics are catching the eye at once. The users are incited to post more photos. In addition to the stunning photo displaying on Google+, the posts containing only images, and those with good resolution, are shown super-sized.
However, the focus on images can lead to the cluster of post without media or links. Text posts only, like the status updates, are shown in blue against the white background. Thus Google+ may be trying to encourage users to share images and content more than updates, positioning itself like an upgrade to Google more than a social network.
Posts Expansion with Pinch
Tablet app provides fast expansion of the post from the user's stream with a pinch for enlargement. The full screen size can also be achieved by double-tapping on the post, but a pinch is more suitable for content viewing without its touching or holding, reports Marketing Land.
Content, links and media of the enlarged post are shown in the middle of the screen. It should be noted that pinching posts with links opens the initial posts of the user, but not the actual links.
Drag and Drop with Two Fingers
One of the vivid and user-friendly features of Google+ app on iPad is dragging and dropping a post to the "Share" box with two fingers only. One finger swipe activates scrolling through the stream. Using two fingers, the user can quickly share his/her post with others, choosing appropriate circles.
Hangouts Feature Streaming to AirPlay
Google+ makes the best of its leading feature Hangouts. It can be used on the iPad as well as streamed to Apple's AirPlay. By selecting Hangouts in the main menu the user can activate video chat with friends. Up to 10 people can participate in it. One can turn on or off a sound for the incoming notification for hangout. The Hangouts idea is great, and one startup company is suing Google for stealing it.
Google+ on iPad (Version 3.0) is available for free on the Apple App Store since July 10.
