    Ticker Disappearance on Facebook

    Facebook social network has taken Ticker functionality away but it should come back soon.

    Facebook social network has switched off the real-time news display on the right side of users’ home page. Currently only some users have the functionality that is called Ticker.

    Ticker is a Facebook newsline that reflects all friends’ actions regardless of their importance. It shows live stories, such as photos, videos, comments and likes, links, friendships and, of course, status changes. This functionality was available for users with certain activity level on the social network. If any user did not see Ticker, that was only because he / she used the network too less.

    First reports of its disappearance started emerging at 9 p.m. PST on June 30, the very time of markets less activity. Therefore, it can be just some maintenance and there is an opinion that it will come back soon. According to one post on Twitter, Ticker “will be back online soon”.

    Still, if Facebook decides to put Ticker away for keeps it can negatively influence on apps development of third-party vendors. However, it will improve content quality in the newsline and consequently will increase advertising place attraction on the page. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that without Ticker one will not find something fresh about his / her friends activity on the home page and touch with more distant friends can be lost.
